		<abstract>The land surface emissivity of (LSE) is an important property in the remote characterization of targets. The estimation of LSE involves the application of an indeterminate function in radiance data contaminated by an atmosphere of complex modeling. Sand dunes, in general, are composed of quartz, whose spectral behavior is well characterized in the Thermal Infrared (TIR) region. In this work three emissivity retrieval methods were evaluated using ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) Thermal Infrared data (10 to 14 bands  8.125-10.95&#956;m): Normalization Emissivity Method (NEM), Reference Channel Method (RCM) and Alpha Residuals Method (&#945;-RM). Emissivity images were generated, whose samples of quartz endmembers were compared with homologous curves from the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) spectral library. The results for NEM and RCM were evaluated by the cosine similarity method, comparing vectors formed by the values of emissivity. In the comparison of the NEM and RCM methods, a minimum difference between the emissivity values was found, with a greater similarity in the vectors referring to NEM. The vectors of MEN and MBR presented values of &#415; = 0.0108663 and &#415; = 0.0108804, respectively. The &#945;-RM generates only a good estimate of the spectral curve with relative emissivity data of the mineral from a reference emissivity. Regarding future objectives, LSE retrieval tests will be performed on images corrected for atmospheric effects from controlled experiments. Furthermore, methods with adjustments of emissivity values will be tested from endmembers of the spectral library of the study area.</abstract>
